About Me
It was two summers ago at the time of writing. I was travelling alone for 3 months deep into the mountain plateaus of Hardanger and Jotunheimen in southern Norway where I created some of my first half decent images on my One Plus 5 smartphone , nearly getting crushed into jam by falling boulders and eating a porridge, peanut butter and coffee fusion on the banks of roaring glacial streams. It’s hard to communicate how free these times feel, there's a reassessment of what's important when placed against these vast and wild landscapes. Since then building a life with nature has been my primary drive. Photography and sound recording have a dual purpose for me, it is a way of coming closer to those places and the emotions that get entwined in them but also brings purpose to the wilderness wandering.
What first drew me into the outdoors though weren't the stories of heroic first ascents, nor tragic wilderness expeditions, but rather the adventures of Gandalf, Bilbo, Frodo and Sam, which accompanied me from childhood all the way to adulthood. The rich sweeping landscapes and mythic air of Middle-Earth that caught my imagination never quite left. I'm convinced it's the stories that have stuck with me that are responsible for inspiring me out of the door and into the wild, to explore, interpret, and build a relationship with the world through creativity. I suppose I kind of feel indebted to those writers, directors, artists and musicians, who have been there, quietly urging me to go and find the beauty in the world. It's with this in mind that, whether picking up the camera, or setting up a mic array it's in hope of giving the gift of a story to someone that needs it.
This website is my futile effort to compile, archive and present my creative work in all its various, disjointed forms. Whilst it's generally a space for photography and sound design I have also included my attempts at writing on various topics I'm obsessed with at the time... Whatever you're here to see, I hope you enjoy it!
